….on the two worlds that sometimes collide: Recovery & Education. It isn’t easy to discern what the best path is to take when you are working with “at-risk” youth with a addiction profile. Dr Burdick presents a compelling argument on the proper way to ferret out such decisions, using the approach proposed by Jane Eigner Mintz of the interventionist work, as well as perspective shared by Karen Kellijian, recovery program consultant. In a synopsis, it is important to get good history, and have a well rounded knowledge of the recovery options available before placing youth in emotional boarding schools. It is equally important in considering the family needs, as one progresses through treatment needs of that individual. Tucson was well received, and educational consultants will receive further education from Dr Burdick and Jane Mintz on how discernment is so important in these cases.

Wilderness Island Style
Two alternatives to traditional wilderness are SeaChange and Pacific Quest both in Hawaii. Two different types of programs with unique philosophies, types of students, and lengths of stay. I find I work well with both of these programs in providing both the consultation and psychological testing that matches the unique qualities of either program. Narrative technique is integrated into the day-to-day therapeutic milieu and is useful to prolong long term change and re-integration into family structure. Plus, the family programs are identifiable not only by the curriculum but the language learned to be spoken and shared among the family members. I was excited by what I saw as extraordinary changes and growth with both programs. The weather was not perfect in January, however, it’s hard to complain in short sleeves and shorts. One of the other schools toured is HPA or Hawaii Preparatory Academy. Whether you’re into the arts, film, languages, sports, horses, eco-friendly design, and remarkable international friendships, HPA could be a terrific choice for the right student. My third visit, HPA has “grown up” with major enhancements.
HTMi Zurich
International hospitality is much more a part of the world’s playground ranging from B&Bs to international hotel and restaurant groups. Hybrids of “boutique” hotels tailored to the domestic & international businesses, and require staff who are of A+ caliber in training and personableness. HTMi (Hotel & Tourism Management Institute). Nestled in the Swiss Alps and ski slpes of Soerenberg, there could not be a more idyllic setting to pursue a diploma or certificate in hotel & tourism. The institute had more happy faces than I could count, and the foods was superb. The use of Apple computer technology including ipods made is “user friendly” for international and US students. As an agent, I am happy to tell you more about this facility and how to connect with them should you be interested in learning more about this tremendous opportunity. Face it. The world is shrinking, and you’re not getting any younger. Pursue your dreams, and let us help you get there!
International Conferences: Locarno & Berlin
An amazing opportunity to make connections in both Switzerland and Germany. I presented in Locarno and we made trips to see hospitality and culinary arts schools. In Berlin the focus is in cultural and language opportunities, and plenty of adventure & exchange programs. I am now accepted as an agent for another year.
New LifeStyles Virginia
Thanks to staff at New LifeStyles in making this visit happen. I enjoyed meeting staff and clients within the program. A licensed facility, it’s ability to work with the over 18 year old client who demonstrates college bound desire and the interest in personal growth. What I particularly found enlightening was the staff’s ability to work collaboratively to make individual clients’ futures happen. Plus, the town of Winchester is unique and easy to to maneuver for young adult clients with a New LifeStyles espresso shop in the making. Good show, good stuff.
